What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is the system of pushing specially refined crystals at high velocity onto the surface of the skin to exfoliate dead skin cells and promote the generation of new skin cells, thereby creating a skin surface which is youthful and glowing. The vacuum suction nozzle performing a dual role: to suction the skin and promote lymphatic drainage and to remove excess crystals and abraded skin cells.

This procedure can be used to treat a number of skin conditions and complaints, and results can be seen following just one treatment. As further treatments are undertaken, results become even clearer to see and feel.

Subject was left with a deep scar following an injury from a falling tree. Subject had 1 treatment per week for 6 weeks. After 6 Microdermabrasion treatments, the scarring is greatly reduced and less noticeable.

Treatment Information

What steps are involved in a microdermabrasion treatment?

1. (Optional step) Apply Clairderm Facial Peeling Gel 2 minutes prior to treatment. This step is optional, however you will see faster results from the microdermabrasion treatments.
2. Vacuum mode over skin: this promotes lymphatic processes which eliminate toxins and bring nourishment to the skin cells. Allows the clinician to determine at what level they will conduct the treatment as skin sensitivity is tested here.
3. Crystal projection over skin: deeply exfoliates skin.
4. Vacuum mode: this is to clean up the crystals and exfoliated skin cells from skin surface.
5. Anti-clog mode: this ensures the system is working efficiently and checks to make sure the crystals have not clumped and clogged in the tubes.
6. Cleanse skin: gently removes any remaining crystals.
7. Nourishing Cream Mask: deeply moisturises the skin.
8. Apply SPF 30 sunblock cream to prevent sun burn.

For optimum skin results, how many treatments are recommended?

We guarantee visible improvements with 6 microdermabrasion skin treatments. That is one treatment per week for six weeks in a course of treatments. Naturally, maintenance is a great idea with one treatment per month once one has achieved the desired skin result.

Is a microdermabrasion treatment more effective for the skin than normal facial treatments?

Yes, the action of the microdermabrasion promotes skin rejuvenation producing new collagen. It does this by providing a superior exfoliation and aids lymphatic processes deep within the skin. This is much more powerful than a stand alone cosmetic product application. The microdermabrasion treatment is strong enough to ensure excellent results on its own, but gentle enough to be used in conjunction with other treatments.

Is there any down time for the customer?

No. Microdermabrasion is not a harsh or deep treatment requiring days to heal. Some redness may occur and this will vary between customers, however most redness will subside within 24 hours. Make-up can be applied immediately following the procedure which enables customers to have the treatment done during a lunch break and then return to work.

Are there any special skin care requirements for the customer following a microdermabrasion procedure?

By removing the uppermost layer of skin, microdermabrasion encourages new skin cell generation. Procedures can make the skin much more porous and sensitive to sunlight. We recommend that following a microdermabrasion treatment, customers diligently apply sunscreen to those areas to prevent sunburn. Being that the skin is so receptive to products, a profitable opportunity exists to provide your customers skin care in the form of a moisturiser or serum formulated with Vitamin C and Vitamin E which will provide additional nourishment to the new skin cells. Are there any precautions to take whilst undergoing a microdermabrasion treatment?

It is recommended that invasive procedures are avoided directly before or after a microdermabrasion treatment. Make your client aware that waxing should not be undertaken 2 days prior to a treatment or for at least 7 days following a treatment. We strongly suggest that the customer does not use sun beds or swim in heavily chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks following a treatment.

What price should I charge my customers for a microdermabrasion treatment?

The rates will vary between locations and regions. It is best to research what other salons and clinics are charging in your local area so that you can remain competitive and still earn a sizeable profit. You will know the demand for this product in your salon or clinic and you will know what your customers can afford. Generally, pricing for treatments using the Clairderm Microdermabrasion unit will depend on what other services or treatments you provide with the microdermabrasion, such as LED light therapy and cellulite reduction. You will also be able to offer bundled packages for the customer to purchase which brings their per treatment cost down (very desirable for the customer), but ensures you continued income for a set number of treatments (very desirable for you).

All Clairderm Microdermabrasion units come with a 2 year warranty. This warranty covers parts and labour for 2 years from the date of your purchase.

What is the price for the Clairderm Microdermabrasion equipment?

Which type of crystals are used with the Clairderm Microdermabrasion machines?

The Clairderm Microdermabrasion devices work with Corundum crystals. These crystals are hard, coarse and uneven and don't normally cause allergic reactions with the skin. This provides prevention of skin itching, eczema and psoriasis. Due to their antibacterial properties, the crystals are ideal for treating acne and congested skin conditions. Crystals are the preferred method for microdermabrasion treatments providing the best results. Less fuss, low cost consumables, and replaceable nozzles reduce the time required to prepare for the next treatment.

Is there an option to do microdermabrasion without crystals?

Yes. The Clairderm Microdermabrasion machine comes with 3 different sized diamond heads. These can be used in place of crystals. Three head sizes allows the treatment to be specifically customised to the client’s skin type and sensitivity. Since diamond heads are not disposable, they must be sterilised with an autoclave between each treatment to ensure absolute hygiene and safety for your customers. The diamond head does not produce the high level results as the crystals and additional treatments may be required to achieve the desired results.

What are the purple beads in the back cylinder?

These beads are silica beads and are designed to absorb any moisture which may effect the operation and effectiveness of the machine and crystals. Once the beads turn pink, remove them from the cylinder and bake (on a foil lined tray) in an oven on lowest heat for 20-30 minutes. This removes the moisture from them, they will return to a dark purple colour and can then be returned to the cylinder (once cooled) to start absorbing moisture again.

Does Clairderm provide an equipment trade-in program?

Yes. We will assess the value of your current equipment and deduct the value of your equipment from the price of a new Clairderm microdermabrasion machine purchase.

Can my Clairderm microdermabrasion machine be upgraded to use the LED and Cell-U-Slim attachments?

Yes. If you have a standard Clairderm digital microdermabrasion unit, you can send your machine to our factory and for a small fee we will upgrade your machine to be able to use the LED and Cell-U-Slim attachments. Once the machine is upgraded you can purchase the attachments and plug them straight into your machine. If you have an older analogue Clairderm microdermabrasion unit, we are only able to upgrade the machine to use the LED attachments. If the microdermabrasion equipment malfunctions, what happens next and is a “loan” machine available?

The Clairderm Microdermabrasion machine is a robust unit and has always been very reliable. Most often simple troubleshooting will solve any problems. The manual that comes with the machine has a troubleshooting section to help you quickly solve the problem and get back to business. However, if the problem cannot be solved easily, we advise you to contact our head office immediately to report the malfunction. Our technical support team will endeavour to solve the problem over the phone with you if this is possible. Should the technician believe that further analysis is required, you will be asked to send the machine to our factory for a thorough investigation of the problem.

So as not to disadvantage your business in any way, we will provide a free “loan” machine whilst we repair your machine if you request this.

Is training required to perform a microdermabrasion treatment?

Yes. To get the best results for your customer and for the safety and comfort of your customer, training should be undertaken in microdermabrasion treatments. As a clinician you must use a variety of inputs to determine the correct treatment for your customer. Information such as existing skin conditions, skin sensitivity, skin type, results desired and client’s mood all affect how you determine the best treatment for your client. Technique is also very important. To give your customer the best results, you need to know the industry techniques to ensure you perform the best treatment possible.
